Introduction and Message And Award Opjectives

The Khalifa International Date Palm Award was established under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE (May God Protect Him) with presidential decree Number 15/2007, dated 20 March 2007, and through Presidential Decision Number 02/2007, dated 7 July 2007, which defined the members of the Award's Board of Trustees.

His Highness Sheikh Nahayan Mabarak Al Nahayan, Minister of Higher Education and Scientific Research, President of the Board of Trustees, attended the inaugural ceremony of the Khalifa International Date Palm Award held on 7 April 2008 at Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi.

The inauguration ceremony attracted both regional and international attention to the date palm tree and the strategic future of dates as a balanced food product, and highlighted it as an essential part of the sustainable development process initiated by His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE (May God Protect Him).




The Message:

The Khalifa International Date Palm Award has been established as an appreciation from His Highness Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of UAE (May God Protect Him) to the blessed tree and to the people involved in the field of date palm cultivation, whether it is in the United Arab Emirates or any other country around the world. The award has also been established in order to recognize the outstanding efforts made to utilize the date palm in the sustainable development of the present generation and those to come.

 

Award Opjectives:

  1. To enhance the prestige of the UAE in the field of date palm research by virtue of its pioneering role in this field.
     
  2. To encourage people involved in the cultivation of date palm: researchers, growers, exporters, whether individuals or agencies.
     
  3. To support research related to the development of the various aspects of the date palm industry.
     
  4. To honor figures engaged in the date palm industry at the local, regional and international levels.
     
  5. To establish and maintain co-operation between the various bodies involved in the date palm industry, particularly in the fields of production, processing, and marketing, as well as products in which dates constitute a principal ingredient.
     
  6. To publicize date palm culture at local, regional and international levels.
     
  7. Nationalization of Knowledge related to date palm cultivation through scholarships.
     
  8. Illustrate the various roles of the date palm tree as a part of the UAE heritage.
     
  9. Support and encourage new innovations related to date palm industry.
